Please join The Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce at City Hall,
as we present our policy, The Economics of Addictions, and the support behind its recommendations to Lethbridge City Council, Monday, August 19, 2019.Like many major cities in Canada, Lethbridge, Alberta is in the midst of a drug crisis which has resulted in significant health, social and financial costs that are borne directly by our residents, local municipalities and the province. In response to this crisis, the Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce has committed time and resources to find the best possible solutions for the crisis by engaging its membership base through road table discussions, surveys, and the creation of a task force.
Through our policy procedures we have created a policy titled The Economics of Addiction that encourages the provincial government to reconsider the need for a comprehensive detoxification facility as well as supportive housing in Lethbridge.
“Our policy is a commitment to getting ahead of the drug crisis,” said Cyndi Vos, Executive Officer for the Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce.
“We do not want to look back five years from now, at an even larger crisis, with regret that there were more assertive steps that we could have taken sooner. Our policy includes a variety of different, innovative options, as this situation will require a comprehensive, coordinated solution by all levels of government, the community at large, the business community, and the not-for-profit sector.”
