    Program for Hiring Employers :Train for Fit, Hire for Skill

    Project Hire - Workplace Training is a program designed to provide individual focused training and work experience opportunities to assist unemployed Albertans to secure and retain employment.

    Project Hire - Workplace Training partners with employers who can provide individual centered programs, on the job training, and paid work experience.  Wage reimbursement is provided to employers to off-set the cost of training on the job.

    How does it work?

    As an employer this program offers another tool for you to put in your toolbox as you are recruiting new employees to fill vacant positions in your company.  Project Hire - Workplace Training provides the opportunity for you hire the right person for the job.  Employers get the opportunity to train individuals in their environment ,in their way, under their direction while receiving a wage subsidy to offset the cost of training.  Individuals become permanent employees from the beginning of the workplace training contract with the employer.  Employees and Employers will benefit from having a coach to assist them throughout the Hiring process, the training period and for another 90 days afterwards.
     

    The process:

    • Project Hire is NOT a placement program.  Hiring and selection is completed by the employer. 

    • Referrals may be made to potential employers for individuals registered in the Project Hire program.

    • Once a connection has been made and both the employer and the potential employee are prepared to move forward towards employment an individualized training plan will be developed for the employee.  ​
       

    Job Seeker Eligibility: 

    • Job Seekers must be ready, willing and able to work and be in need of skills training.

    • Must be 18 years of age or older and legally entitled to work in Canada.

    • Individuals MUST be unemployed to participate in the program.

    • Eligibility for the program, existing skills and training needs are determined through an assessment process with the staff at Teamworks Career Centre.

    Employer Eligibility:

    • Employers must have the ability to deliver on-the-job training.

    • Potential to provide the trainee with full time employment after the program is completed.

    • Eligibility for the program will be determined through an assessment process with the staff at Teamworks Career Centre.

    Program Options:

    • Option 1:  On-the-Job Training

      • On-the-job training occurs at the work site of an employer.  The employer agrees to hire and train an individual on a full time basis.  The individual becomes an employee from the beginning.  The employer agrees to train the employee with the necessary skills for the position based on an agreed upon training plan.​

      • Employers receive a wage subsidy of 70% of the weekly wage to a maximum of $390 per week during the training period.​

      • Training periods are determined on a case by case basis.

      • Employers have the opportunity to hire multiple individuals under this program.
         

    • Option 2:  Paid Work Experience

      • This option is a short-term paid work experience that helps individuals gain employment with the intent for long term employment.  This option allows the individual to perform specific work tasks, to become familiar with work site standards and to demonstrate their competencies and skills to an employer. 

      • No training plan is required for this option.

      • Employers receive reimbursement for a portion of wages during the 3 week paid work experience period.
         

    • Supplemental Training:

      • Supplemental training is additional training that augments the training that occurs at the workplace. 

      • Funding to a maximum of $1,500 may be available for each individual as part of their training plan.

      • Examples include:   Forklift training, computer training, first aid, safety courses, etc.
