Description
Join us for the Quarterly General Meeting!
Chamber members will have the opportunity to hear from Teamworks Career Centre and The University of Lethbridge Finance Club while enjoying a delicious breakfast provided by Streatside Eatery.
We are excited to have Teamworks Career Centre providing a summary of the Centre for Hiring Excellence Program and the Project Hire Training Program.
Teamworks Career Centre has been helping unemployed Albertans and local employers for 31 years by offering programs and services to meet workforce needs. They work in partnership with the Alberta Government to provide free employment, training, and employer services. Their goal is to get Alberta working, and they have helped over 35,000 job seekers and 3,000 employers to date.
The Centre for Hiring Excellence Program provides customized HR services to support attraction, onboarding, and retention of skilled workers for organizational success. Free workshops are available to support recruitment and retention. This program is funded through a grant from the Alberta government.
The Project Hire Workplace Training Program is designed to provide on-the-job training opportunities for unemployed Albertans to build a skilled workforce. Benefits for businesses include wage subsidies, off-site training cost reimbursement, and recruitment and onboarding support. The program is offered in partnership with the Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce.
The University of Lethbridge Finance Club is dedicated to educating students about finance and providing a platform for like-minded individuals to come together. Students in the club can develop skills in investing, trading, financial modeling, and software programming. The club emphasizes practical and experiential learning, both in courses and extracurricular activities.
One of the club's notable activities is the Integral Trading League, which provides students with hands-on experience in trading and investment. The club recently participated in the Rotman International Trading Competition (RITC), a three-day simulated market challenge. This annual event brings together teams of students and their faculty advisors from universities around the world. Participants compete in diverse cases based on real-world conditions, such as electronic and outcry trading, commodities, options, liquidity, and algorithmic trading. The event also includes seminars with industry practitioners and social events where participants can meet and network with peers from around the world.
Participating in the RITC allows students to develop their skills in finance and trading while meeting like-minded individuals from around the world. These connections can lead to lasting relationships and further professional development. The University of Lethbridge Finance Club is an excellent resource for students who are interested in finance and want to gain practical experience in the field.
We are excited for Matthew Gillett, Finance and Computer Science Major, Gabe Fisher, Accounting Major and Vishaal Baulkaran, Associate Professor of Finance, to share their recent trip to this competition and their experiences in the program.
