    Child Development Specialist (Temporary full-time-35 hours a week)
    YWCA Harbour House Women’s Emergency Shelter
    Position Description Summary:
    Child Development Specialist will be required to provide specialized therapeutic programming to help children deal with the effects of family violence. This will be conveyed to the client in the following areas:
    • Provide day to day activities and programs for children 0-12
    • Engage with Children through Child Directed Play activities
    • Provide child care for clients (for children 0-12 ensuring gross and fine motor and dexterity development)
    • Facilitate Parenting groups
    • Create and deliver programs for both residential and community children that promote health and well being
    • Promote, Coordinate and Facilitate Project Child Recovery groups
      Please note: This is a temporary maternity cover-off position until September 26th, 2019
    • Aboriginal culture and impacts of residential schools.
    • Knowledge of Child Welfare and Justice system
    • Understanding of Attachment theories
    • Knowledge of community resources for families
    • Understanding of the cycle and dynamics of abuse
    • Understanding of the impacts family violence has on children
    • Knowledge of Child Development
    • Sound judgment and problem solving skills
    • Counselling skills & Organizational skills
    • Ability to work in a team and independently
    • Strong oral and written communication skills
    • Ability to work with other community agencies
    • Provide educational and developmental groups
    • To be an ambassador for the YWCA and HH programs
      Education and Experience:
      Child and Youth Care, Level 3 Early Childhood Education, and/or, Human Services Diploma or Degree.
